Here's the thing: I can fairly quickly make an okay drawing in ink wash (as shown in the upper part of the test), but I'm trying to figure out the best way to go from there to a full colour digital painting using Photoshop.
I've been studying the technique of Loish [link] and especially the wonderful Betteo [link] I want to use the texture and tone that are already there from the inkwash and use colour as an additive, not as a starting point and simply cover it with digital paint.
I'm experimenting and getting there, slowly, playing around with the opacity and flow of brushes and the layer options. But any tips for use of technique you may have are most welcome. Or maybe you have some tips for good tutorials or references here on DA.
